Sashi sighed as she leaned back in a rare moment of calm. The paper folding had been going well, even with having to take time away from selling her stock to teach the Artisans, and Kova had recovered from his recent fever. The quiet surrounded her, comforting her, not stifling. In the afternoon haze, her chin slowly dipped to rest on her chest.

The room was brightly lit as she danced across the floor, excited to be going somewhere other than school or home or the market.  Her Da followed behind her, laughing, which was a rare occasion in it's own right.  The sunlight that filtered into the room was colored from the paper screen set over the windows, thick enough to tint the light but thin enough to let in the hot summer breezes.  Sashi reached the far end of the room, gasping with delight as she saw the myriad of papers spread across the table.  "Da?" Her five-year-old self asked.  "Da?  Really?" She was bouncing in place as he approached, the smile crinkling his eyes.

"Yes, Sash.  Tobias wanted to show you something," her da moved aside as another man, younger and rounder, waddled up to the table.  Sashi peered at him with big eyes, a shy smile playing across her lips.

"You must be Sashi," the man said, crouching to her level.  "Here, what do you make of this?"  He handed her what appeared to be a was of paper that Sashi slowly took.  She turned it over in her hands for a few moments before carefully adjusting some of the pieces, smoothing them out in some cases, making sharp creases in others.  Slowly, the wad of paper transformed into the shape of a small flower, crude, but evident.  The man watched Sashi with care, nodding and grunting in appreciation of the little girl's care with the thin paper.

When she was done, she held out her creation. "Is this ok?" She asked, her voice a thin whisper.

Tobias gravely took the paper back and inspected it.  "It is perfect, little girl."  Sashi grinned up at her da.

A sudden sound jolted Sashi awake.  Rubbing her eyes, she glanced around her stall, taking note of anything that might have changed in her lapse.  A small smile played on her lips as remembered her first paper creation.

Prompt: That was when I invented it
By: AGMeade

I tweaked the prompt a little, but it worked really well for Sashi!  I'm glad to have written about her again.  I want to write mroe about ehr, but she only likes being written about in FlashLit!

If she only appears in FlashLit, then she only wants to be seen in short form. You could always combine her up afterward. Something like 'The Martian Chronicles' or 'Winesburgh, Ohio'. She does certainly seem like an interesting character from the glimpses we've had.
